Stallions open second round against South Africa

The The Stallions, the Nigerian rugby team, will begin their second round of the Rugby Africa Men's 7s against South Africa on Saturday (today), kicking off at 05:22 GMT (09:22 local time) at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mapou, Mauritius. PUNCH Sport Extra reports.

According to the Nigeria Rugby Federation, the team is in high spirits and ready for an impressive performance in the second phase of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Rugby Federation praised the positive influence of coach Steve Lewis on the team, highlighting the inspiring first three games, the determination and development of the team, adding that the hard work throughout the week has prepared the team well for this weekend.

Nigeria entered Group A in the first round and lost all three matches against Kenya, Madagascar and Mauritius before defeating Tunisia to finish tenth.

The Stallions played without their two captains. Eight new national players stepped in. The team put in an exceptional performance and celebrated its first victory against Tunisia, the first victory since the partnership with FlovalexNRFF.

Uganda won the first round after achieving the highest possible score of twenty.

For the first time in history, the Rugby Africa Men's 7s tournament will be played in two rounds at the Labourdonnais Sports Club. The first round took place from 29 to 30 June, while the second round will take place from 6 to 7 July.

Twelve nations compete in both rounds of the tournament, with the winner being determined based on the points accumulated after the two rounds.
