Meeting of former Arizona Wildcats is the highlight of the Olympic qualifying tournaments in men's basketball

Three former basketball stars from Arizona are trying to qualify their respective home countries for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris – and so far things are going well.

The teams with Deandre Ayton (Bahamas), Nico Mannion (Italy) and Azuolas Tubelis (Lithuania) achieved a combined 5-1 record in group matches in their respective FIBA Olympic qualifying tournaments. Both teams advanced to the semifinals, which will be played on Saturday, with the final scheduled for Sunday.

At least one team represented by UA will play for a trip to Paris as Italy and Lithuania face off in Puerto Rico on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT. The winner will play either Puerto Rico or Mexico in Sunday's final.

Mannion has averaged 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a substitute for Italy, while Tubelis has played 16 minutes per game for Lithuania and scored 14 points on 55.6 percent shooting.

Ayton was dominant for the Bahamas, which is making its first Olympic appearance. The former No. 1 NBA player in 2018 averaged 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 62.5 percent in two games in Valencia, Spain.

The Bahamas will face Lebanon, which features almost the same players the UA defeated in Abu Dhabi last summer, at 8:30 a.m. PT on Saturday. The other semifinal pits hosts Spain against Finland.
