“A little piece of paradise, half a block wide and lasting an entire season.” Another classic trailer from the 90s – an iconic baseball movie about kids getting into trouble. The sandbank was one of my favorite movies growing up – I saw it so many times. In the summer of 1962, a new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his scrappy team, which leads to many adventures. Not only is it the perfect slice of suburban America with all the usual happenings, it's also a great baseball movie about a group of kids who, even though they can't really play well, still build their friendships around the game. The sandbank Stars Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Art LaFleur, Patrick Renna (also seen in You have to believe), Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Adamsand many others. There are many baseball movies in Hollywood history, and while this one may not be everyone's favorite, it is one of ours. We also recently posted a fantastic baseball movie montage video, and there is a whole new book about them called Baseball: The Movie which we also recommend (even if its author Noah Gittell is not a big fan of The sandbank – well.) I'm also a fan of the little dog in it – “The Beast” – who makes his big appearance at the end.

Here is a selection of classic trailers + TV spots for David Mickey Evans' The sandbankdirectly from YouTube:

The Sandlot Poster

Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) moves to a new neighborhood with his mom and stepdad and wants to learn to play baseball. Benny Rodriguez, the neighborhood baseball guru, takes him under his wing and soon he becomes one of the local baseball buddies. They have fun adventures involving baseball, sleepovers in tree houses, the desirable lifeguard at the local pool, the snooty rival little league team and the traveling carnival. Behind the fence at the back of the sandlot lurks a legendary ball-eating dog named “The Beast,” and the kids are forced to deal with him. The sandbank Directed by the American filmmaker David Mickey Evans (aka David M. Evans), his second feature film after Radio Flyer (although he took his name from this film) and before he continued First child and the direct-to-video sequels Beethoven's 3rd and 4th. The screenplay was written by David Mickey Evans and Robert Gunter. Produced by Dale de la Torre and William S. Gilmore. The sandbank originally released in cinemas in April 1993and grossed $32 million at the box office in its first release. The film is available on Disney+ and in many places as VOD.
