UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley will return to Yankee Stadium at 1 p.m. Saturday to throw out the first pitch before the Yankees' game against the Red Sox.

Hurley, a left-handed hitter, threw out the first pitch before a July 23, 2023, game to celebrate his first men's basketball title. That day, he received an autographed jersey from Royals Hall of Fame member George Brett; Hurley became a huge fan of Brett after his famous tirade in the 1983 Pine Tar Game. The Yankees played the Royals on the 40th anniversary of that game.

Hurley was tellingly comically critical of his performance, despite throwing from the top of the mound and not letting the ball bounce, and has promised to throw a more powerful strike this time around as he celebrates his second consecutive championship.

Statistical oddity? The Huskies appeared at Fenway Park on June 15 for a Yankees-Red Sox game. On that day, the Yankees were 50-22 and in danger of winning the AL East. They have lost 13 of 17 games since Alex Karaban threw out the first pitch. The Red Sox were 35-35 on June 15 and are 12-4 since then.

Maybe the Yankees could use a heated pregame speech from Hurley.
