Gas leak affects dozens of workers at Kuala Lumpur airport

(MENAFN-IANS) Kuala Lumpur, July 5 (IANS) Thirty-nine people were affected by a gas leak at an aircraft factory at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia, authorities said on Friday.

The leak occurred in an aircraft engineering facility separate from the passenger terminals and affected employees of several companies operating in the area, the Selangor state fire service said in a statement on Thursday.

Those exposed to the gas complained of dizziness. Fourteen of them were taken to the air disaster unit for treatment, while one was hospitalized. There is no major threat to public safety, Xinhua news agency reported.

The chemical was later identified as methyl mercaptan, which was added to liquefied petroleum gas as an odorant and came from an unused tank at the plant, fire officials said.
