Euroleague Basketball expands leadership team and approves important decisions

Euroleague Basketball has confirmed the contract extensions of Dejan Bodiroga as President and Paulius Motiejunas as CEO for another four years, following a unanimous decision by the Board of Directors and subsequent approval by the shareholders of Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) on Thursday.

Bodiroga, who assumed the role of President in September 2022, and Motiejunas, who was appointed CEO in June 2023, will continue to lead Euroleague Basketball during their extended terms.

ECA shareholders also ratified several crucial elements for the upcoming 2024-25 season. They approved the competition statutes, finalized the list of participating teams and set the schedule for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the BKT EuroCup.

In addition, shareholders approved the financial report for the 2023-24 season and introduced new rules in the financial stability and fair play framework.

Director of Referees Daniel Hierrezuelo presented a comprehensive report on referee performance in the 2023-24 season. His report included recommendations to improve referee recruitment, training, monitoring and technology protocols.

According to the press release, ECA shareholders made the following decisions:

    • Confirmed the contract extensions of Euroleague Basketball President Dejan Bodiroga and CEO Paulius Motiejunas by four years each.
    • Approved the competition statutes for the 2024–25 season. Approved the lists of participating teams for the 2024–25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and BKT EuroCup and the season calendar.
    • Approved the financial report for the 2023–24 season.
    • Approved new rules in line with financial stability and fair play regulations.
    • Reviewed a referee report for the 2023–24 season submitted by Director of Referees Daniel Hierrezuelo that included suggestions for improvements to referee recruitment, training, monitoring and technology protocols.
