Mark Hamill nominates Carrie Fisher as Donald Trump's successor on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

It's been nearly a year since the West Hollywood City Council approved a proposal to remove Donald Trump's star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame in August 2018. And while that hasn't happened yet, people on Twitter are banding together to suggest that another celebrity should take the president's place – Carrie Fisher.

The trending hashtag #AStarForCarrie was born on Wednesday morning when Fishers war of stars Co-star Mark Hamill spoke at the city council vote last year and said it would be a perfect permanent addition to the famous walk.

A few hours later, tens of thousands of people joined in their support, stressing that “there is no one more deserving” than Fisher.

Someone even described the viral discussion as a kind of war of stars.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame has not publicly commented on the requests and did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle's request for comment, but perhaps it is time to remove the president's star after it has been vandalized multiple times.

However, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the march, had previously stated that it would never take place.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has received inquiries as to whether we plan to remove Walk of Fame stars for alleged misconduct. The answer is no,” said Leron Gubler, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star is added to the Walk, it is considered part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

“That’s why we’ve never removed a star from the Walk.”

Former chairman Johnny Grant had previously made a similar statement.

“Stars are awarded for professional achievements in the world of entertainment and contributions to the community. A celebrity's political views, philosophy, irrational behavior or outrageous remarks have never been grounds for removing a star from the Walk of Fame,” he said.
