Kendrick Lamar gives a taste of new music in the highly anticipated video “Not Like Us”

Kendrick Lamar previews new music and unites the West Coast in his long-awaited music video for “Not like us.”

On Thursday, July 4, the Compton native released the visuals for his chart hit, produced by MustardLamar starts the video with a preview of an unreleased song in the first 20 seconds.

“I'm born again, I've been stargazing/Life goes on, I need all my babies,” he raps. “Woke up and looked for the broccoli/Hot key, keep your eye on the horn, the Kamasi/IP property, the blueprint is mine/Mister get-off, I'm getting off at my feet.”

The rest of the video contains numerous references to his Beef with Drake that inspired the record, like the owl-shaped piñata that Kendrick destroys, his physical challenge in cell block one, and the caged owl he gets closer to at the end. Outside of these scenes, the pgLang co-founder puts the emphasis on the best aspects of his hometown, like Tommy The Clown and his dancers helping to bring Kendrick's brutal bars to life, and the hundreds of Los Angeles locals who flooded the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial at Compton City Hall.

Elsewhere in the video, Kendrick Lamar and Mustard grab a bite to eat at Tam's Burgers and drive around the streets of Compton in a Ferrari. Lamar also teams up with Anthony “Top” Griffith of Top Dawg Ent, Terrence “Punch” Henderson and his former labelmates. Ab-Soul, Jay RockAnd Schoolboy QTowards the end of the video, he is seen walking as a cripple with his partner Whitney Alford and their two children Uzi and Enoch.

The video comes two weeks after he performed the song live for the first time at “The Pop Out” Show on Juneteenth in Los Angeles. Directed by Lamar and Dave Free, the video was shot at various locations in Compton and attracted hundreds of fans and other LA artists, such as YG, Big hit, and more.
