Twin Cities 12s advance via walk-off grand slam

Thomas Velasquez helped the Twin Cities' 12th-ranked Little League team maintain its winning streak at the District 3 All-Star Games in the most dramatic way on Wednesday.

Velasquez hit a walk-off grand slam in the sixth inning to help Twin Cities to a 5-4 quarterfinal win over Tiburon Peninsula.

Twin Cities (7-0) advances to the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m., where Joe Wagner will face Ross Valley (4-3). Twin Cities won the first meeting between the two teams on Monday, 8-4. Ross Valley defeated San Francisco National 2-0 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Twin Cities has a 21-0 record in the All-Star game in Divisions 12, 11 and 9-10 so far this postseason.

Velasquez had two of Twin Cities' four hits in the game and also played four innings as the starting pitcher. Grayson Hall and Mason Whitehead both hit singles in the sixth inning and Chase Coghlan reached the bases on an error for Velasquez.

Tiburon Peninsula (3-4) gave Twin Cities a run. Ryan Dupuis had two hits, three RBIs and scored twice. John Stewart, Jr. also scored a run. Dupuis pitched the first five innings, allowing one hit and one run and striking out nine players.

Mill Valley (7-1) also advanced after a 12-0 win in four innings against Novato North (3-4). Oscar Karlen did not allow a single hit in four innings and struck out four players. Davis Marshall had two hits and scored four runs. Karlen also had three hits and two RBIs. Beckett Glynn had two hits and two RBIs.

Mill Valley will face San Francisco American (5-2) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Joe Wagner. San Francisco American defeated West Marin 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Mill Valley defeated San Francisco American 4-3 on the first day of play.

The semifinals for the 12-, 11- and 9-10-year-olds are expected to take place on Saturday, and all three finals will be played on Sunday at Joe Wagner.

In the 11s semifinals, Twin Cities will face Novato South at 10 a.m., followed by Mill Valley vs. Novato North at 1:30 p.m., both games at Boyle Park.

The semifinals of the 9-10 class will take place at 10 a.m. between Twin Cities and Novato South, followed by a match at 1:30 p.m. between Mill Valley and Novato North – both games in Strawberry.
