Patriots analysts predict when Drake Maye will start

One of the biggest questions for the New England Patriots is when they will put their rookie quarterback Drake Maye in the starting lineup.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of the 3rd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston and Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald have made their predictions about his start.

Curran expected Maye to start in early November as the rookie is still learning the offense and adjusting to life in the NFL.

“Most likely he will show good progress during training camp and they will probably find the window to use him there in early November because he has played well for some time. [mop-up duties]β€œHe played competently during training camp,” Curran said.

Callahan saw a potential opportunity for the former UNC star to get his chance in December.

“We've always said here that the most important part of football happens after Thanksgiving. That will finally be true again, but for a different reason, because that's about the time Drake Maye will be deployed,” Callahan said.

The development process will be important for Maye, who is expected to be a mainstay of the offense in the coming years. All eyes will be on offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, who will be leading the work behind the scenes with the rookie quarterback.

The new coaching staff will be under pressure to avoid a repeat of what happened to Mac Jones under Bill Belichick. The Patriots can't afford to lose a first-round quarterback for the second year in a row.
