Sure, England's team is packed with superstars, but Gareth Southgate's star team were just seconds away from elimination against Slovakia on Sunday. Then Jude Bellingham’s overhead kick saved the game in the 95th minute and Harry Kane headed a Early in extra time, the game turned around and England won. Nevertheless, England's performance was well below par and the only consolation the Three Lions can take from this tournament so far is that they are in the quarter-finals without having played well. Not at all.

The opposite can be said of Switzerland, which performed excellently under Murat Yakin. The Swiss dismantled Italy in the round of 16 and their fluid attacking system with Rieder, Embolo and Vargas buzzing around in front of Freuler, Xhaka and the forward-pushing full-backs of Ndoye and Aebischer was great to watch. The bookies won't have Switzerland as favourites in this game but anyone who has watched them at this tournament will know they are in much better form than England and they look solid defensively too with Akanji, Schar, Rodriguez and Sommer all having incredible tournament experience.

Marc Guehi is suspended for multiple yellow cards, so Southgate will be forced to change the central defence, and Ezri Konsa seems to be the next player to step up. Still, there is a good argument for England lining up with a back three. Walker, Stones and Konsa in central defence with Alexander-Arnold at right-back and Saka or Trippier at left-back could work well. Bellingham and Foden in more central roles behind Kane could work in a 3-4-2-1, and this change in formation would see England take on Switzerland's line-up. At this point, Southgate needs to change something drastically to raise the performance level.

News about Team Switzerland, Focus

The Swiss team had injury concerns for captain and talisman Granit Xhaka. He was checked for an adductor injury before this game but it looks like he will be fine. This is a big advantage for Switzerland as Xhaka is the heart of their team. Aside from that, the Swiss team will probably line up the same as they did against Italy. They will have Duah as a substitute who looks very dangerous while the experienced Xherdan Shaqiri certainly has a big goal in him. The biggest strength of this Swiss team is that they are full of energy and relentless when they press in packs and are dangerous on the counterattack.

Prediction England vs Switzerland

This will be a very difficult game for England, but it seems that the manner of their victory against Slovakia will serve them well. Kane and a few other stars will finally shine and the Three Lions will win a close game. Switzerland will create plenty of chances, but will they be determined enough? That is the big question. England – Switzerland 2:1.
