Australian sevens rugby teams for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris

Two-time Olympian Charlotte Caslick And Nicholas Malouf will lead the women’s and men’s rankings Australian sevens rugby teams, or at the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has both Rugby Sevens The squads for Paris 2024 will be announced on Wednesday. Each team will consist of 12 players.

In addition to the two captains, Sharni Smale and Henry Hutchison will also be the first Australian sevens rugby players to compete in three Olympic Games.

Caslick and Smale were also part of the Australian women's team that won a gold medal at Rio 2016. However, at Tokyo 2020 they lost 14-12 to Fiji in the quarterfinals.

Captain Charlotte Caslick is one of the most decorated players in world rugby and one of only two players to ever win multiple World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year awards, Olympic gold, Commonwealth gold, a Rugby World Cup and the World Series.

“I'm really excited for my third Olympic Games and I can't wait to play with these girls,” Caslick said. “We've worked really hard to get to this point where we're going for a gold medal. I've enjoyed every moment of being able to lead these players and we're in a good position to play well.”

The women's team comes to Paris as reigning World Series champions, following a nerve-wracking semi-final victory over New Zealand and then winning the World Series final against France last month.

Five players – Bridget Clark, Teagan Levi, Isabella Nasser, Kaitlin Shave and Bienne Terita – will make their Summer Games debut in Paris. The Australian women have been drawn into Group B, where they will face Ireland, Great Britain and South Africa.

The men’s rugby sevens team consists of seven debutants – Ben Dowling, Matthew Gonzalez, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Henry Paterson, Hayden Sargeant, Corey Toole and James Turner.

Meanwhile, Olympians Nathan Lawson, Maurice Longbottom and Dietrich Roache return from Tokyo for their second Games.

The men's team, which reached the quarter-finals in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, was drawn in Group B together with Argentina, Samoa and Kenya.

Joshua Turner, Michael Icely, Kahli Henwood and Sidney Taylor have been named to the reserves. They can be selected as replacement athletes in case one of the selected athletes is injured or withdraws.

The rugby sevens competition will be played at the Stade de France. While the men's competition will take place from July 24 to 27, the women's competitions are scheduled for July 28 to 30.
