Hub City wins Maryland District 1 Little League Baseball title in 10-12 season

MAUGANSVILLE – Washington County’s newest Little League won the 2024 Maryland District 1 baseball championship in grades 10-12 on Tuesday.

Trey Keatts had two hits and two RBIs, and Maddex Murray and Jaxon Shanholtz also had two hits as Hub City scored seven runs in the third inning and five in the fifth to defeat Halfway National 15-11 and win the title with a 3-0 record.

Hub City, in its first year since the merger of the Maugansville, West End and American leagues, will compete in the Maryland state tournament beginning July 20 at the Southern Maryland Youth Organization complex in Pomfret.

Dylan Gammill scored three runs and Styles Eyler, Mason Mathis and Hunter Small each finished the game with two RBIs for Hub City.

Halfway National scored five runs and took a 6-2 lead early in the third inning, but the lead did not last long.

Hub City responded with seven runs in the second half, with Eyler's two-run double being the biggest hit. Murray and Keatts added RBI singles. Two runs were scored on walks with the bases loaded and another on a wild pitch.

Halfway National scored three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 9-9. Hub City regained the lead with a run in the bottom half and then secured it with a fifth run. Mathis, Keatts and Lane Jefferies hit RBI singles and Small capped the comeback with a two-run single.

Murray also managed five strikeouts in the final three innings as a relief pitcher.

Cody Kelley had two hits and Luke Reynolds hit a home run for Halfway National.
